May 2008

Friday May 9th
The Pete Best Band
with
Beatlemagic
and Special Guests: The Fab Five

Original Beatles drummer to kickoff 2008 USA tour in Buffalo.

Re-live the exciting pre-Beatlemania days of 1960-62 with the man who put the original beat in The Beatles: Pete Best and The Pete Best Band.

The band will take you on an amazing journey back to Liverpool's Cavern Club, The Casbah, and the rollicking clubs of Hamburg, Germany. You'll be singing along with the Mersey beatin', high-energy songs that The Beatles played live on stage in the early years with Best on drums, including "My Bonnie", the recording that lit the initial spark of Beatlemania in 1961.

Fantastic rock-n-roll classics are on tap, including some early Beatle's originals, plus fun firsthand stories about John, Paul, George and Stu, from the man who shared the stage with them for 2 years and almost 1,000 live shows.

Buffalo's local favorite, BeatleMagic, will open the show, brilliantly recreating the unforgettable sights and sounds of 1964-1970.

The Pete Best Band will have you twisting and shouting with "One After 909". "Some Other Guy", "Please Mr Postman", "I Saw Her Standing There", plus the instrumental, "Cry For A Shadow" from Beatles Anthology 1, which is notable as the only Lennon-Harrison composition ever recorded.

A fun surprise at a Pete Best Band concert is the post-show "Meet and Greet" where fans can get autographs, photos, and chat with Pete Best in person.

The Fab Five (from Liverpool, New York !) closes out the evening with British Invasion hits and deep Beatle cuts. This incredible group has played Liverpool, UK's famed Cavern Club with Joey Molland of Badfinger, and is an official backing band for both Molland and Terry Sylvester of The Hollies. In 2007, CBS Sunday Morning described The Fab-Five as being “..one of the best tribute bands in the country".

"We were at our best when we were playing in the dance halls and clubs of Liverpool and Hamburg (with Pete on drums). The world never saw that." - John Lennon

“....we reached our stage peak in Hamburg..." - George Harrison, 1969.

With the Pete Best Band, you'll experience what John and George were talking about.

Saturday May 10th
The Average White Band

"Their self-effacing name to the contrary, Average White Band was anything but — one of the few white groups to cross the color line and achieve success and credibility playing funk, with their tight, fiery sound also belying their Scottish heritage, evoking American R&B hotbeds like Detroit, Memphis, and Philadelphia instead. Friday May 16th
An Evening With The Alan Holdsworth Band
"Allan Holdsworth is widely regarded by fans and contemporary musicians as one of the 20th century's most prominent guitarists. He is one of a handful of musicians who has consistently proven himself as an innovator in between and within the worlds of rock and jazz music. Many of music's best-known instrumental masters cite Holdsworth as that rare and shining voice—a legendary player who continues to push the outer limits of instrumental technique and the electric guitar's range of tonal and textural possibilities. Particularly during the 90s, Holdsworth has enjoyed the recognition so many musicians strongly feel he deserves, given that he has developed his career outside the big label mainstream and has consistently produced his own recordings with complete creative control since the mid-80s. Despite the uncompromising nature of Holdsworth's predominantly genre-defying solo projects, he's no stranger to all-star jazz festival line-ups or large venue rock audiences. Musician Magazine placed Holdsworth near the top of their “100 greatest guitarists of all time.” There's never been a shortage of media attention or acclaim for Holdsworth's accomplishments and originality. An inductee of Guitar Player Magazine's Hall of Fame, Holdsworth is a five-time winner in their readers' poll."

Saturday May 17th
British Sea Power
with The Rosebuds
"British Sea Power have a reputation for elaborate and well-thought out live shows and won the 2004 Time Out London Live Band of the Year award. The stage is often decorated with foliage and plastic birds and sets generally finish with a semi-improvised song called "Rock in A", which sometimes lasts for over 20 minutes. Various members often climb riggings and tear down the foliage, Eamon walks around the audience beating his marching drum, and a ten-foot bear, Ursine Ultra, occasionally makes an appearance - often taking a beating from various band members. This has become one of the signatures of the band. Their tours often include unusual venues such as the Scillonian Club on the Isles of Scilly, Grasmere Village Hall, the St. John Boste Social Club in Kendal, Cumbria and Carnglaze Caverns in Cornwall. The band have built up an eccentric image in interviews and press releases; some of which is based on fact, other times merely whimsical building of outward personas. This has included giving journalists grid references at which to meet them, and expressing obsessions with Field Marshal Montgomery and bird watching."

The Ultimate Beatles Show

"Audiences have been raving about the all-Canadian tribute to the Beatles known as THE CAVERNERS.
These boys have yet to perform without their crowds screaming, stamping their feet and yelling for more.
Every part of the show is recreated with the utmost authenticity, right down to the Liverpudlian accents. Every piece of CAVERNER costume and equipment is Beatle authentic, right down to the British Vox amplifiers and the classic Ludwig "Ringo" drum kit."

Sunday June 22nd
Peter Murphy
with Special Guests

"After disbanding Bauhaus in 1983, Murphy formed Dali's Car with former Japan member Mick Karn. Dali's Car only released one album, The Waking Hour, in 1984. Following its release, the duo broke up and Murphy hesitatingly began a solo career with a cover of Magazine's "The Light Pours Out of Me," which was featured on a 1985 Beggars Banquet compilation called The State of Things. In 1986, he released his first full-fledged solo album, Should the World Fail to Fall Apart, which featured a number of guest artists, including former Bauhaus member Daniel Ash. Two years later, Murphy released his second solo album, Love Hysteria. Like its predecessor, Love Hysteria received lukewarm reviews but sold well to his dedicated fan base. "
