Musicians Aimee Mann and Ted Leo have joined forces for a collaborative project they call The Both.  The duo's self-titled debut was released April 15 via SuperEgo Records. Building on a friendship forged while they were on tour together last year, it was Leo's solo sets that piqued Mann's interest in getting on stage with him and writing music together. Of the project, Mann notes, "Honestly, I feel like for the first time, I'm part of a rock band."

“It would be impossible to overstate the impact and influence Godflesh’s pioneering industrial squall has had on heavy and experimental music.” Legendary, innovative industrial metal act, Godflesh, will embark on a U.S. tour this fall with noise-maker Prurient that makes a pit stop in Buffalo at The Tralf on Tuesday, September 22. NOTE FROM KELLER: I'm absolutely elated to introduce my new trio featuring Rodney Holmes on drums and Rob Wasserman on upright bass. Rob is a Grammy award winning composer and producer as well as a zenned out keeper of the pocket who has played with a jaw dropping amount of famous people. I first saw him in the late 80's as a duo with Bob Weir. Rodney, also a Grammy award winning composer and producer, is a complete and total badass on the drum kit and has played with folks like Maceo Parker and Santana. I became an instant fan in the early 2000's for his work on the "Live From Denver" albums with the Steve Kimock band. The thought of this project has me absolutely giddy with excitement and ideas. One is to focus on acoustic dance music while using my new as well as older material as a template for this vision.  Another is to simply be a student of these two masters and allow them to take this music into lands unknown.  Im excited.  Can you tell?  Kw.

BULLY VIDEO

FACEBOOK

The word “bully” has a negative connotation in 2015, one heavy with menace and violence. A bully is an instigator, an aggressor—someone who can spot your weaknesses and exploit them mercilessly. It’s a curious name for a Nashville quartet that is transforming familiar ‘90s alt-rock (Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Weezer) into smart, sharp-edged millennial indie rock, but “bully” is certainly an apt description for the band’s churning guitars, rambunctious rhythms, and tightly coiled intensity. Their debut Feels Like sounds alternately like a balled fist and a fresh bruise.

More crucially, the word “bully” is a perfect distillation of frontwoman Alicia Bognanno’s visceral approach to songwriting. She trades in steely observations, raw-nerve confessions, and intense anger directed almost exclusively at herself—although a few bystanders and bad exes might get caught in the crossfire. Her voice rises from sugar-sweet to scratchy howl as she bares her most harrowing fears to the world. In other words, Bognanno is her own bully.

LOWER DENS VIDEO

Even though this year marks The Dodos’ tenth anniversary as a band, they’ve managed to crawl along without ever grabbing the spotlight with a firm hand. Much like Mew, The Walkmen, or Joanna Newsom, the indie rock band’s fanbase is cultish but quiet. Fans covet each record and turn up for every show without writing extensive thinkpieces about the underlying message of their genius, although perhaps it’s because there are too many lines present in their music to even begin reading in-between them. The duo have never stopped pushing themselves. As The Dodos explain, it’s less about making headlines and more about getting people to drum on their steering wheels, to feel the true pulse of their heavy rhythms.

Brett Dennen is an acclaimed singer-songwriter whose soulful, unique voice and feel-good compositions reflect the influences of his humble origins growing up in the Northern California foothills. Named an “Artist To Watch” by Rolling Stone, Dennen has gone from opening shows for artists such as Michael Franti and John Mayer to headlining his own sold-out tours. Of his latest CD Smoke & Mirrors, Dennen says, “I wanted to return to the folk and acoustic music I loved when I began writing. I decided to tap into my memories and explore new emotional territory as honestly as I could.”

Dennen’s back on the road this fall visiting some cities and towns he hasn’t seen in a while. Including a Buffalo date on October 4 at The Tralf. He’s bringing the full band too.

IN THE VALLEY BELOW VIDEO

FACEBOOK

Seldom has a debut single seduced so many, for so long. Two years since its release, In The Valley Below’s “Peaches”, which was first picked up by European alternative radio, continues as an international airwaves staple – testament to the enduring viral power of its sunny yet smoldering songcraft and celebratory surrender to mutual attraction.

Though never intended as a gigging band, ITVB’s genre-ambiguous, dreamily accessible expressions traveled well, inducing tireless touring. High-profile stops included England’s Reading and Leeds festivals, Rock en Seine in Paris, The Late Show with David Letterman, and Conan. The band returns to Buffalo for an intimate headline performance October 20 at the Tralf after previous performances at Alternative Buffalo’s Kerfuffle and UB’s Springfest earlier this year.

THE LONE BELLOW VIDEO

"The Lone Bellow isn't the first modern band to traffic in grandiose folk-rock uplift, but it's already among the best. Singer-songwriter Zach Williams writes with real ambition, as he channels some of music's mightiest pillars in crafting his sound: The title track of The Lone Bellow's Then Came The Morning pointedly summons the spirit of Van Morrison (and his more recent spiritual cousin, Glen Hansard), but it's also fused with the sounds of gospel and, as Williams himself has said, "a lot of Vegas-era Elvis." - NPR

The Lone Bellow returns to Buffalo after a triumphant set opening for country mega-star Eric Church at First Niagara Center in May 2015.  Read one of the many rave reviews of that show [HERE].

After celebrating their 20th anniversary as modern day rulers of old school funk, the Brooklyn-based juggernaut Lettuce is not showing any signs of slowing. Having blown up stages from coast to coast last year, ranging from The Fillmore in San Francisco to Terminal 5 in NYC, Bonnaroo to Pemberton and all points in-between, Lettuce is poised to continue their rapid growth throughout 2015.
