Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band

Wednesday May 4
ESI Events Presents

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band
Opening the Show
Uncle Ben's Remedy

7pm Doors | 8pm Show
21+ Admitted

Buffalo, NY – Roaring out of the southern Indiana foothills comes Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band playing a brand of Americana and Blues that stands alone – Delta blues and hillbilly fervor combine with musical acuity sharp as razor wire – best know, this trio is a force to be reckoned with. The growl of a good truck engine, the fiercest passion for his country home and family and an uncanny ability to breathe new life into old forms of music give them a pedigree many Americana acts would kill for and an ironclad work ethic keeps them on the road 250 dates a year, playing for the people with hurricane force.

Locked in with an audience, the band create their own community and welcome the crowd into it, transporting them away from their troubles to joyous release, the way great musicians have done for centuries. The Rev. J. Peyton, his wife Breezy and distant cousin Aaron “Cuz” Persinger are a living breathing embodiment of the traditions and hard work ethic native to their Brown County, Indiana home. Their newest album So Delicious is a chronicle of this lifestyle. Reverend Peyton returns to The Tralf Music Hall on Wednesday May 4th.

Protomartyr "LIVE"

Buffalo, NY --- The best bands sound like everything you love and nothing you’ve heard. So it goes with Protomartyr, a Detroit quartet that seems to have ingested every classic post-punk record and evolved into a new kind of beast. Their third album, 2015’s The Agent Intellect, earned rankings on year-end lists in Spin, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, and the band has seen its crowds grow exponentially since it formed in a bar one boozy night five years ago. Named after an ancient philosophical questioning of how the mind operates in relation to the self, it’s an elegant and often devastating display of all that makes Protomartyr so vital and singularly visceral an outfit.  Agent Intellect has elevated Protomartyr from great band from Detroit to national treasure from Detroit. Go see them live, so you can tell your friends you knew them when.

Rogue Wave

Wednesday May 11
ESI Events Presents

Rogue Wave
Opening the Show
Hey Marseilles

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Buffalo, NY – Rogue Wave will release their sixth studio album entitled Delusions of Grand Fur this April. The album is the indie rock band’s first new release in three years, since 2013’s Nightingale Floors.

Over the decade and a half that Rogue Wave has made music, Zach Rogue has continued to expand his band’s emotional spectrum. Drawing inspiration from the inevitable delusions of everyday American life, Rogue, his longtime bandmate Pat Spurgeon, and their fellow members have returned reinvigorated, and with a fresh sound founded on the art of patience, the fearlessness of experimenting, and the unbridled joy of creating something meaningful to help us navigate through these vacant times. Trusting in its own abilities and leaning on each other, Rogue Wave has seized creative control of its identity and sound and is set to smash any preconceptions of its music, revealing the most truthful, powerful, and urgent sonic blueprint of the band to date.

Rogue Wave will be benefiting the work of Everytown For Gun
Safety on their tour.  $1 to Everytown, powered by RPM"* to acknowledge the
per ticket donation and provide the buyer a receipt for tax-deduction
purposes.

Hayes Carll

Friday May 13
ESI Events Presents

Hayes Carll
Emily Gimble

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Buffalo, NY – Failure has always been a favorite topic of Texas troubadour Hayes Carll. Much of the songwriting catalog he's built up over the last dozen-plus years revolves around dashed dreams, doomed romance and drunken predicaments. Very often, though, he's leavened the losing with cleverly deployed gallows humor, self-deprecation and yarn spinning, linking his work to his native state's tradition of wryly winning musical wit. Some of Carll's most beloved hits — to the extent that there is such a thing in the singer-songwriter and Americana scenes that he straddles — features situational humor and hooky punch lines delivered over shambling, down-home grooves in a fractured twang that plays up a badly sprained ego.

Carll's first album in half a decade, Lovers and Leavers, strikes a heavier tone. The press release accompanying the new music includes his preemptive warning that it "isn't funny or raucous," that "[t]here are very few hoots and almost no hollers." The guy's not kidding.

"The Love That We Need," written with Jack Ingram and Allison Moorer, sets the tone. Accompanied by fingerpicked guitar figures, soft chord changes on piano and bass, and the muffled rustling of percussion, it feels like a glimpse into an excruciatingly intimate conversation that's been put off as long as possible, a sighing surrender to the atrophying connection between partners. "You say, 'I love you,'" he offers. "I say, 'Me too.' We don't think much about it. It's just a thing that we do." Depicting failure of such a private, ordinary variety, without any colorful exaggeration or comic relief, is an exacting art.

In the live setting, his performances reverberate with pulsating dance rock energy, which has led to numerous high profile appearances, ranging from Carnegie Hall to Celebrate Brooklyn, Newport Jazz to Bonnaroo. Buffalo, NY --- Canadian indie-rockers Born Ruffians will make a long overdue live performance in Buffalo at Mohawk Place on Saturday, May 14 in support of their latest album release Ruff. The band’s fourth studio album is a collection of scrubbed raw anthems that are defiantly optimistic, imaginatively arranged, and performed with a sense of bloodlust. On the opening track, Luke Lalonde yelps on the "You're livin' the dream but it don't live up." Like the best BR stuff, it's a gnarly, angular, post-punk anthem full of jagged edges and twitchy energy. That aching dissatisfaction lingers through Ruff's lyrics, despite defiant boasts like "(Eat Shit) We Did It," often in sharp contrast to the exuberant hooks, sunny gleam, and quirky, intriguing arrangements. In contrast to previous records from this Canada-based quartet, Ruff is simultaneously a return to form and a departure from convention. It is at once a culmination and a disassembly of the band’s history and dynamics

Drum Wars

Saturday May 28
ESI Events Presents

Drum Wars featuring
Carmine and Vinny Appice

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Vinny and Carmine break out the heavy artillery in this entertaining no-holds barred battle to the finish. Carmine and Vinny...Vinny and Carmine! Don't know which one comes first, which one had the moustache first, or which one has the best legs! However, they are both great artists in their own genre. Carmine's track record includes Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, B.B.A. (Beck, Bogart and Appice), and Rod Stewart, to name a few. Not bad! Vinny has driven John Lennon, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell. Not bad! (I've been stuck with one band for 40 years - The Boston Symphony).

From the initial downbeat of this sibling confrontation, this specatcle culminates in the final battle of Drum Wars. The Ultimate battle both playing with great power, imagination and musically spirited. So now, Drum Wars. The tour which Carmine and Vinny demonstrate their sensational playing abilities. It is comedy in that they leave Laurel and Hardy very secure! It is entertainment in that it is great fun. Sincere, open and honest.

AlunaGeorge

Monday June 20
ESI Events Presents

AlunaGeorge
with Cleopold

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Buffalo, NY – In the two years since pop alchemists AlunaGeorge – aka singer and lyricist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid – released their critically lauded debut album, Body Music, they’ve barely stopped. From world tours to festivals to Katy Perry support slots to collaborations (2015’s frenetic “To Ü” with Skrillex & Diplo) to chart-slaying remixes (DJ Snake’s version of “You Know You Like It”, i.e. one of the most streamed songs of all time), their world has expanded immeasurably from the tiny London studio they started working in back in 2010. Somehow, in amongst the madness, they’ve managed to find the time to write and record a follow-up album (entitled I Remember) that confidently maintains their unique sonic palette – a soulful, pop-leaning take on downtempo dance and experimental R&B – but also takes it forward into bolder territories. Lead by the dancehall-tinged, ludicrously catchy banger “I’m In Control”, featuring Jamaican rapper Popcaan, it’s an album that channels their experiences into a delicious melange of pop styles. AlunaGeorge will be at The Tralf on Monday, June 20

Delta Rae

ESI Events Presents

Delta Rae

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

It's been a good few years for the relentlessly hard working six piece rock band from Durham, NC, whose sophomore album After It All will be coming out on April 7, 2015. Since the release of their debut album Carry The Fire in the summer of 2012 and 2013's follow-up EP Chasing Twisters, Delta Rae has been profiled everywhere from NPR and Time to Forbes. Rolling Stone proclaimed that "if Fleetwood Mac came up in North Carolina, they might resemble Delta Rae." VH1 hand selected them for their "You Oughta Know" Artist Of The Month program, and they performed not once, but twice on both The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Conan. Live is where Delta Rae truly flourish, having spent the last year and a half playing to sold out venues from coast to coast, even sharing the stage with First Lady Michelle Obama when they performed during a Democratic rally at UNC Chapel Hill. They've played pretty much every festival under the sun, including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and Voodoo, and are excited to be hitting the road again this spring.

Son Little

47 E. Mohawk St. Buffalo, NY 14203

Friday June 24
ESI Events Presents

Son Little

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Playing his songs across the United States and in Europe over the past year, with a wide range of artists and to varying audiences, Son Little has noticed something particular about his own music.
“As I’ve been going around to different places with this very eclectic mix of other acts, one thing that’s struck me about my music is just how American it is,” he says.
And while he’s not wearing a stars-and-stripes polo while shooting fireworks and holding a sousaphone, his sentiment rings true. Here in this proud, brave land of blurred lines and regional dishes is a musical melting pot that sizzles and smokes, from sea to shining sea. Son Little is stirring that broth.
“Part of what’s unique about this country is its intense mixture of things. People in different regions don’t always understand each other that well, but music can go places that people won’t always go. That’s part of who I am and definitely part of the music I’m making, so now more than ever I feel very American.”
The artist formerly known as Aaron Livingston knows his nation well. He was born to a preacher and a teacher in Los Angeles, where he learned how to listen and how to play before moving east to New York and New Jersey. He dropped in and out of schools in Manhattan then Philadelphia, and there he collaborated with acts like The Roots and RJD2. He first planted his flag as Son Little with last year’s highly praised EP, Things I Forgot, a small collection of big songs that showcased his ability to hop across genres as well as he does state lines.
